Half of your skill in CS 1.6 lives not in the crosshair but in the config. The right binds shave half a second off every buy, a proper sensitivity puts the crosshair where your eyes already look, and a couple of console lines remove everything that gets in the way. Here are the commands people actually use — not a dump of three hundred cvars.
The bind command ties an action to a key. The classics almost everyone sets:
The most valuable ones are buy binds. One key instead of wandering through menus: bind "kp_ins" "ak47; deagle; vesthelm; buyammo1; buyammo2" — a full T loadout bought with a single press. Build the same line with m4a1 for the CT side.
The most reliable way is to set binds and parameters once in the settings — they are stored in your profile and applied on every server automatically. The default layout is described on the controls page, and you can test your config right away: the servers open in the browser, no game install needed.
